A passenger Air Busan plane caught fire at Gimhae International Airport in South Korea. The fire started before the flight to Hong Kong, and there were 176 people onboard, Yonhap News reports.

The passenger plane caught fire at the international airport in the southeastern city of Busan.

The fire department reported that the Air Busan plane, which was heading to Hong Kong from Gimhae International Airport, caught fire in the tail section just before takeoff at approximately 10:26 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

It is known that all 169 passengers and seven crew members onboard were evacuated using an inflatable slide. During the evacuation, three people sustained injuries.

Although the fire started in the tail of the plane, it also spread to the fuselage.

Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 crash in South Korea

On December 29, 2024, a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok to Muan signaled an SOS during its landing. The aircraft landed with its landing gear retracted, ran halfway down the runway, went off the runway, collided with an embankment and a locator, exploded, and caught fire.

The crash killed 179 passengers and crew members out of 181 on board. Only two individuals, seated in the tail section of the aircraft, survived.
