Russian forces launched a massive attack on Odesa starting on the evening of February 18 and continuing into the night of February 19. As a result of the enemy's attack, more than 500 houses in one of the city's districts were left without electricity and heating, according to a Telegram post by the city's mayor, Hennadii Trukhanov.

"Dear Odesa residents! As for the situation at 3 o'clock Kyiv time, the energy workers are working, and we are waiting for information from them. Based on the information we receive, we will plan our further actions," said the mayor.

He clarified that as a result of the Russian attack, 14 schools, 13 kindergartens, and a large residential area with more than 500 houses were left without electricity and heating. Specialists are currently assessing the damage and determining how much time is needed to address it. According to Trukhanov, a children's clinic and a kindergarten were significantly affected.

"One of the largest districts of our city, with more than 250,000 residents and 500 high-rise buildings, is currently without heating and electricity. However, we already understand that the heating situation is very complicated. Therefore, we are making decisions to add water to the system to prevent it from freezing and worsening the situation," explained the mayor of Odesa.

Currently, one person is known to have been injured and is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, local authorities are setting up heating tents and unbreakable points for residents. Starting in the morning, the district administration will begin accepting applications from residents of damaged apartments.

Additionally, today in the Kyiv district of Odesa, there will be no in-person classes at educational institutions. This applies to those institutions that are without electricity and heating.

"By decision of the headquarters, we are canceling children's classes and visits to kindergartens tomorrow in the Kyiv district. I ask everyone to stay calm and composed. The situation is very difficult, but I want to assure you that I and our team are working on it," concluded Trukhanov.

Russia's attack on Odesa

On the evening and night of February 18-19, strike drones from Russia were detected in many regions of Ukraine. However, there were particularly numerous reports regarding the Odesa region. In addition to drones, there were also warnings about the potential use of ballistic missiles targeting Odesa from Crimea.

At the moment, there are no precise details about what exactly targeted the energy facilities, but it is known that a drone attack took place.
