Russian forces attacked Ukraine with a medium-range ballistic missile, Oreshnik, during the night of January 9. The attack targeted civilians' everyday life amid a severe cooling period.
The Ukrainian leader noted that emergency response efforts are ongoing in Kyiv and the region following a massive Russian strike. All necessary services have been deployed. A total of 20 residential buildings have been damaged.

US President Donald Trump stated that he supports the sanctions bill against Russia, developed by lawmakers, but there is a condition for his backing.

US intercepts tanker linked to Russian oil exports in Caribbean Sea
On Friday, January 9, the United States detained the tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea near Trinidad. This is already the fifth such interception of vessels in recent weeks.
According to US officials, the US Coast Guard boarded the oil tanker and continued monitoring other vessels that were attempting to bypass the US blockade on tankers traveling to and from sanctioned Venezuela.
