Orban creates not impact on Ukraine's Euro-integration, but newsworthy events
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will not affect Ukraine's European integration, but will create newsworthy events, said the Advisor to the Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Mykhailo Podolyak.
The advisor to the head of the Presidential Office commented on the Hungarian side's statement about "70 opportunities to block Ukraine's accession to the EU" and said that Orban would not be able to influence Ukraine's European integration.
"It is strange that he does not understand our right to defend our lands. If Hungary had such a situation, it would be incomprehensible if someone from the EU said they would not help," Podolyak said.
Hungary's position on Ukraine's accession to the EU
On December 14, EU leaders approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the bloc. This happened even though Hungary threatened to veto the initiative.
According to Western media reports, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban walked out of the room when the EU summit was discussing the opening of accession talks with Ukraine. Later, it turned out that the Hungarian prime minister had allegedly been asked to leave by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
After that, the Hungarian Prime Minister's advisor, Balázs Orban, threatened that Budapest would create obstacles during the negotiation process.
"Subsequently, member states must also unanimously agree on a specific framework for negotiations. In addition, in the coming years, at least 70 unanimous decisions will be required to approve Ukraine's accession to the EU," he said.
