Orbán willing to discuss Christmas ceasefire with Zelenskyy in Brussels
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels, where they are both currently located, Telex.hu. reports, citing the Head of the Hungarian government.
In a conversation with journalists, Orbán stated that the "Christmas ceasefire" plan is already "on the table" and is waiting to be accepted or rejected.
In response to a question about the possibility of negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Orbán emphasized that he is working and remains in a state of constant readiness. He stressed that he is open to any constructive discussions should the need arise.
"Christmas ceasefire"
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán previously stated that Ukraine rejected his proposal for the so-called "Christmas ceasefire." According to Orbán, the initiative was proposed to both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.
Ukraine immediately reacted to this statement. Ukrainian presidential advisor on communications, Dmytro Lytvyn, noted that Russia used Orbán's statement to prepare for a new strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Ukrainian Presidential Office, also spoke out, emphasizing that no such proposals existed. He pointed out that Russia, even if there were a real initiative, would not be interested in a ceasefire.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Hungary to stop manipulating the topic of the "Christmas ceasefire." Zelenskyy also expressed his position, stating that Orbán cannot act as a mediator in peace negotiations.
