Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán cannot become a peacemaker in the war between Ukraine and Russia. He has no leverage to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting of the All-Ukrainian Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

The head of state emphasized that he is counting on closer contacts with Donald Trump after his inauguration. Only after that will it be possible to talk about Trump’s attitude towards Ukraine's victory plan.

"I truly believe and hope that he will strengthen our plan. Strengthen the relationship between Ukraine and the USA. And only this alliance, a strong alliance. We don't need countries that today, like Hungary (I'm not talking about the people, the people support Ukrainians), like Prime Minister Orbán (Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán – ed.) who wants, you know, in some way... It won’t work. I won’t let him, or people like him," Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, Ukraine needs direct relations with the USA because Ukraine has already shown that it is a strong country, and this has been proven on the battlefield.

"Does anyone else in Europe have such a modern example? No one. Does Orbán have such an army? No. How will he pressure Putin? With an anecdote, a smile? Let him keep it," the Ukrainian president added.

Scandalous statements by Orbán

Recently, Orbán made another scandalous statement about the war in Ukraine. The Hungarian prime minister spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and, following the talks, claimed that he "offered Russia and Ukraine a 'Christmas ceasefire.'"

However, according to Orbán, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly rejected this proposal. Meanwhile, the Kremlin fantasized that they "supported" such an initiative.

In response, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Hungary to stop making immoral manipulations regarding the topic of a Christmas ceasefire.
