Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has confirmed that he is travelling to Moscow today, November 28, to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters reports.

According to him, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss oil and gas supplies to Hungary.

When asked whether they would discuss peace efforts to resolve Russia's war against Ukraine, Orbán replied affirmatively, adding that they are unlikely to avoid the topic.

The meeting between Orbán and Putin in Moscow has already been confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Visit of Orbán to Russia

The Hungarian prime minister planned to visit Moscow on November 28, with the trip being prepared with the participation of a large delegation.

He is expected to be accompanied by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár, and national security adviser Marcell Bíró.

Orbán's delegation will discuss energy issues with Putin, particularly amid the United States granting Hungary a one-year exemption from sanctions on Russian oil and gas.

Unlike most European leaders, Orbán maintains relations with Russia while criticizing Western military aid to Kyiv.

The Hungarian prime minister has upheld ties with Putin since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the two leaders communicate regularly.
