Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán will travel to Moscow this week to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit is scheduled for November 28, according to Euronews.

According to media reports, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will travel to Moscow on Friday for talks with the Kremlin leader.

This information comes from sources within the Hungarian government who were involved in preparing the trip.

The Hungarian government has not confirmed the visit yet, and Budapest has stated that it will inform the public about Orbán’s program in due time.

The topics of the talks are also not being disclosed in advance.

Orbán’s position

As is known, the Hungarian prime minister has maintained ties with Putin since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the two leaders have communicated regularly, meeting in person three times since early 2022.

Orbán and Putin last met in person in October 2023 in China. At that time, the Hungarian prime minister again referred to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine as a "special operation."

It is also known that Putin and Orbán held a one-on-one meeting on February 1, 2022, during an hours-long discussion in Moscow, exactly three weeks before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

More recently, in early November, Viktor Orbán met with US President Donald Trump. After that meeting, he publicly called on Trump to hold a summit with Putin specifically in Budapest. However, the US president said at the time that he did not currently see any reason for such a meeting.
