Orbán adviser rejects Ukraine's role in defending Europe

Budapest believes that Ukraine's defense against Russian forces has no impact on Hungary's security, according to Balázs Orbán, adviser to the Hungarian Prime Minister, as reported by Telex.
According to him, Europe "should not defend itself with the help of Ukraine," because Hungary does not want a "confrontation with Russia."
"Instead, European armed forces should be strengthened so that we can defend ourselves if necessary," he added.
The official also disagreed with the claim that Ukraine, in its war with Russia, is also fighting for Europe's security.
"Ukrainians are fighting for themselves, and they have the right to do so. But this does not concern our security. We never asked them to fight on our behalf. We do not want a confrontation with Russia," he said.
That is why, according to him, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been trying to convince Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that "time is not on his side" and that he should "seek a deal."
Balázs Orbán also stated that NATO should not fear an attack from Russia, as the alliance is "much stronger" than Russia.
Threat of Russian attack
Western officials have repeatedly warned about the possibility of a Russian attack on NATO.
Notably, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus G. Grynkewich, stated that Europe and the United States have a maximum of 2.5 years to prepare for a potential war involving both China and Russia.
He clarified that Chinese leader Xi Jinping could push Russia to strike NATO in order to divert the West's attention, while China itself might launch an attack on Taiwan.
