Rescue operations are ongoing in Ukraine's Dnipro following a massive Russian missile and drone attack that left five people dead and more than 40 injured, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov.
Strikes aftermath, rescue operation
Russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in several waves, using missiles and drones. The strikes hit residential buildings, energy facilities, and civilian infrastructure.
During the day, Russian forces carried out another strike on a residential area that had already been damaged overnight.
Five people are confirmed dead. More than 40 people were injured, including children. Twenty-three victims have been hospitalized, while two residents are still reported missing.
The rescue operation will continue until the fate of all individuals is clarified.
City services' work
All municipal services are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack. Utility workers are supplying water for emergency responders, providing heavy equipment to clear rubble, and cleaning streets of shattered glass.
Mayor Borys Filatov says that, despite the scale of the destruction, there are cases that can only be described as miraculous.
"Last night, a Shahed drone flew into an apartment. Straight through the window. Everyone survived because it didn't detonate. Realistically, that's one in a million," he noted.

Reaction by Ukrainian leader
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that protection against Russian attacks must be reliable and that the world should not ignore the war in Ukraine.
He called on partners to implement agreements to strengthen air defenses in a timely manner and to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia.
Russia repeatedly hits Dnipro
At around 11:30 AM on April 25, Russian forces carried out a renewed strike on Dnipro. This time, they again hit a residential area where rescue operations were already underway. The second assault left at least one person dead and several residents injured.
This followed a large-scale combined attack that began overnight on April 25. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 47 missiles of various types and more than 600 strike drones across Ukraine.
The attack was focused on Dnipro and critical infrastructure facilities in the region. Air defense forces managed to destroy most targets — 30 missiles and 580 drones. However, several direct hits were recorded in the city.
The most difficult situation resulted from a nighttime strike on a residential high-rise in Dnipro. Several floors of the building were destroyed, and a fire broke out. Rescue teams continue to clear the rubble, as the fate of about five people remains unknown. The total number of injuries in the city has now exceeded 40.
