Oil depot in Rostov region ignites due to drone attack
In the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, a fire broke out at an oil facility today, August 18, following drone strikes, according to Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev and Russian media.
According to a Russian official, in the western part of the region, forces and resources reportedly repelled a drone attack of the aircraft type last night.
Later, the official wrote on Telegram about another repelled attack by drones, this time in the southeast of the Rostov region.
"As a result of debris falling on industrial storage areas in Proletarsk, there was a fire involving diesel fuel. Firefighting units are on the scene," the governor stated.
However, he later clarified that at 05:35, firefighting efforts at the industrial base in Proletarsk were suspended due to a repeated drone attack.
Meanwhile, footage of the fire at oil facilities has been released online. Russian media report that the oil depot is burning due to a drone strike.
Additionally, according to the local governor, no injuries have been reported from the aerial attack in Proletarsk, and firefighting units have resumed their efforts.
Fires and explosions at an oil refinery in Russia
Earlier, it was reported that on August 4, there was a major fire near an oil depot in Azov, Rostov region, which spread to a storage facility.
At the end of June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that SSU drones had struck more than 30 oil refineries, terminals, and depots in Russia.
For example, drones successfully attacked Russian oil depots in the Tambov region and the Republic of Adygea on the night of June 20. Another oil facility was reported to be on fire in the Rostov region on the night of June 18. According to RBC-Ukraine sources, this was also an SSU special operation.
