Inflammation often shows up as fatigue, joint pain, bloating, and digestive issues. Usually, ibuprofen is used to relieve symptoms, but experts are increasingly highlighting the role of diet.

According to Mirror, a natural product may have strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Which product has anti-inflammatory effects

Nutritionist Luis Miralles shared on social media that black seed oil can have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.

He explained, “Just one teaspoon can reduce joint inflammation, sometimes even more effectively than ibuprofen.” The key active compound is thymoquinone, a bioactive substance with antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties.

Scientific data partially support this potential. A large review published in the Journal of Medical Food confirmed that black seed demonstrates antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and may positively influence overall health.

Research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences showed that thymoquinone affects several inflammatory pathways in the body and may suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-6 and TNF-α. These markers are often elevated in chronic inflammatory conditions.

Some clinical trials also show promising results. In a study published in Nutrition, patients with knee osteoarthritis who took black seed oil reported significant reductions in pain and improved physical function compared to a placebo group.

Its benefits may extend beyond joint health. Some studies suggest black seed oil can lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL (“good”) cholesterol, potentially supporting cardiovascular and metabolic health.

How to use black seed

It is usually taken orally; due to its strong flavor, it can be added to yogurt or other dishes. Topical use is also possible: thanks to its antimicrobial properties, it may help with mild skin irritations or acne.

Experts urge caution. The NHS notes that the evidence base is still developing, and some claims require larger studies. Potential side effects include digestive upset or allergic reactions. The oil may also interact with certain medications.
