Not just military aid: How US will contribute to Ukraine reconstruction fund

The United States may provide Ukraine with weapons as a contribution to the Reconstruction Investment Fund. However, Washington may also make monetary contributions, says First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko.
“They (the US – ed.) can simply contribute money. If they are interested in a project, they can invest funds,” said Svyrydenko.
First Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksii Sobolev explained that the DFC (US International Development Finance Corporation) is the US development bank, and according to its budgetary procedures, it can decide to allocate additional funding.
When asked about the sources of the U.S. contributions to the fund after the war ends and military aid is reduced, Sobolev replied: “We need weapons. So, they can provide them as a contribution to the fund. That is, the value of this aid will be covered by the future profits of the Fund.”
Ukraine–US minerals deal
On the night of May 1, Ukraine and the US signed a strategic economic cooperation agreement on mineral resources.
The document provides for the creation of an Investment Reconstruction Fund, to be jointly managed by Ukraine and the US. The agreement also includes access to 57 Ukrainian minerals.
The document requires ratification by the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) – the vote is expected to take place today, May 8.
Both in Ukraine and the US, it has been stated that this agreement could become one of the key mechanisms for attracting capital for reconstruction and ensuring cooperation between the two countries.
