Not just a signed paper: Zelenskyy on what’s needed to end war
Ending the war in Ukraine requires guarantees of a reliable peace without turning a blind eye to occupation. Russia can only be stopped by force, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The war cannot be ended with "just a piece of paper and a few signatures," and a ceasefire without guarantees could be reignited at any moment, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has done before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
“To ensure that Ukrainians no longer suffer losses, we must guarantee a reliable peace and not turn a blind eye to occupation,” Zelenskyy stated.
He believes that Putin can only be stopped by the strength of leaders who are willing to become "leaders of peace."
“We count on America and the entire world to stop Putin. The only thing he fears is America and global unity,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, Ukraine continues to discuss peace through strength, actionable steps, and guarantees with all its partners.
Trump calls for negotiations
On December 7, in Paris, Zelenskyy met with newly elected US President Donald Trump in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelenskyy described the meeting as "productive and positive," emphasizing that peace through strength is achievable.
Following the meeting, Trump issued a statement on the war in Ukraine, calling for an "immediate ceasefire" and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He claimed that Zelenskyy and Ukraine appear ready to reach a deal to end the war.
