The US is trying to put an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The situation is difficult at the moment, US President Donald Trump stated this at a Cabinet meeting.
"We have a problem with the war that our people are trying to settle now — with Russia and Ukraine," Trump said.
According to him, the US is no longer providing funds; they are only selling NATO weapons, and they also want to resolve the situation.
"But we're trying to get that settled. I've settled eight wars. This would be the ninth. And our people are over in Russia right now to see if we can get it settled. Not an easy situation, let me tell you. What a mess. It's a war that never would have happened if I were President," the President added.
Peace negotiations
Currently, US officials are actively engaging with both Ukraine and Russia to agree on the terms for ending the war.
The US has already drafted a 28-point peace plan. Following negotiations with Ukrainian officials, it was shortened. Today, December 2, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the outcomes of discussions with the US, highlighting 20 points.
According to the Ukrainian president, there are still difficult issues to resolve, including territorial matters, frozen Russian assets, and security guarantees for Ukraine from the US.
Initially, it was expected that Zelenskyy would discuss these issues with US President Donald Trump.
However, the American leader recently stated that he is willing to meet with Zelenskyy or Russian President Vladimir Putin only after the work on a war-ending agreement is completed or the process reaches its final stage.
