Norway to fund part of military aid to Ukraine
Norway will allocate funds for military assistance to Ukraine. The funding will be provided through the International Fund for Ukraine under the leadership of the UK Ministry of Defense, according to the press service of the Norwegian government.
The Norwegian government will allocate about $232.5 million for a package of international assistance to Ukraine, which will include:
- About $115 million for equipment to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy, including small boats, reconnaissance drones, unmanned surface ships, and drones for mine countermeasures;
- about $85 million for air defense equipment, including radars, ground camouflage equipment, and electronic warfare systems against unmanned aerial vehicles;
- about $32.5 million to provide support and spare parts for critical systems previously supplied to Ukraine.
“The war in Ukraine continues, and the need for military equipment remains critical,” said Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
Ukraine will receive the funds through the International Fund for Ukraine, an additional mechanism for financing support led by the British Ministry of Defense. The fund includes Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, as well as Iceland, Australia and New Zealand.
Norway's support
Norway is one of Ukraine's main allies. In particular, in November, Norwegian parliamentary parties agreed to allocate $3.2 billion to help Ukraine in 2025.
By the end of the year, Norway may provide six F-16 fighter jets.
