Norway approves $3.2 billion in aid for Ukraine in 2025
Norway's parliamentary parties have agreed to allocate 35 billion Norwegian kroner ($3.2 billion) in aid to Ukraine for 2025. This amount will be included in the budget, according to Vart Land.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held talks with parliamentary party leaders to discuss funding for Ukraine in 2025.
The meeting came after Norway’s draft state budget initially allocated only 15 billion kroner (about $1.3 billion) for Ukraine. This caused dissatisfaction among the opposition parties, and they demanded 45 billion kronor in response.
"This is an important signal for Ukraine which is going through difficult times, and an important signal for those who attack," Støre said after the meeting.
He emphasized that during the meeting he tried to find a solution that would be supported by all parties in parliament. Party leaders supported the allocation of $3.2 billion.
For 2024, Norway allocated 27 billion kroner ($2.44 billion) in support for Ukraine.
Government plans
Earlier, Støre announced intentions to increase Ukraine's 2025 aid to $2.7 billion, up from the $1.3 billion proposed in the draft budget.
Norway remains a key ally for Ukraine, with plans to deliver six F-16 fighter jets by the end of the year.
