Norway plans to allocate approximately $8.5 billion to Ukraine in 2026 as part of its continued support program. The funds must be approved by the country's parliament, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre says at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

He says that he announced that support for Ukraine in 2025 would be continued in 2026, involving $8.45 billion, and adds that he would propose to parliament to allocate this amount.

According to the Prime Minister, Norway will maintain a high level of assistance in the future. He stressed that parliament has repeatedly unanimously supported initiatives to support Ukraine and expressed confidence that the new funding package will be approved.

Støre emphasizes that strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities is a key priority, and assistance is being provided based on its current needs.

Norway's assistance

Today, Monday, August 25, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is visiting Kyiv. In the morning, the Norwegian leader was met at the capital's railway station.

Before that, Norway announced the allocation of about 7 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $685 million).

With the allocated funds, Norway, together with Germany, will purchase two American-made Patriot air defense systems. The defense package will also include air defense missiles.

In addition, Norway will allocate nearly $100 million for the purchase of imported natural gas.

The funds received will be used by the Naftogaz of Ukraine group to build up sufficient gas reserves ahead of the heating season.
