Norway and Denmark to enhance defense cooperation for continued support to Ukraine

Denmark and Norway are strengthening defense cooperation, particularly to continue supporting Ukraine. The two NATO member countries are intensifying their efforts in this area following recent statements from US President Donald Trump, Reuters reports.
According to the outlet, on Tuesday, February 25, Norway and Denmark issued a joint statement regarding the increase in defense efforts.
The statement highlighted that these actions will take place within the framework of Nordic cooperation and NATO. The countries plan to present specific proposals in May, but it is already known that some of them will focus on supporting Ukraine.
"Amongst the areas to be covered would be investigating opportunities for stronger industrial ties to support our own defense sectors and our continued commitment to Ukraine," said representatives of Denmark and Sweden.
Additionally, the countries aim to explore ways to strengthen cooperation between their armed forces in all areas, as well as develop strategic cooperation in the North Atlantic.
Defense spending and Ukraine
After Trump began demanding higher defense spending from NATO member countries, European leaders are increasingly considering options to boost defense expenditures. In January, Trump urged NATO members to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP.
Additionally, leaders from the UK and Europe have intensified diplomatic efforts to demonstrate unity in supporting Ukraine.
In particular, Germany is discussing the creation of a new fund to increase military spending and support Ukraine in light of rising threats. According to Bloomberg sources, this move is aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities amid Russian aggression.
The media also reports that France is ready to use its nuclear deterrent forces to help protect Europe. Nuclear-capable fighter jets could be deployed to Germany. A French official told The Telegraph that the deployment of the jets would send a signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
