No infantry involved: Ukraine launches first attack using only drones
Ukraine has carried out its first attack entirely with robotic systems, including ground UAVs and FPV drones, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports.
The spokesperson for Ukraine's National Guard's Khartiia brigade, which operates in the Kharkiv sector, announced on December 20 that Ukrainian forces conducted their first ground strike using only robotic systems instead of infantry near the settlement of Lyptsi.
According to the spokesperson, Ukrainian forces deployed dozens of robotic systems, including UAVs equipped with machine guns and drones designed for laying and clearing mines at enemy positions. As a result, the operation successfully destroyed Russian positions.
ISW analysts note that this attack demonstrates how Ukraine leverages technological innovations to compensate for manpower limitations.
Ukraine also continues to advance its innovative drone production. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, tests have been completed for a fiber-optic cable drone, which will be more resistant to enemy electronic warfare.
A Ukrainian drone manufacturing company recently reported assembling a prototype of the first FPV drone made entirely with Ukrainian components.
Ukrainian weapons
During the war, Ukraine has increased the production of drones and other weaponry. Furthermore, Ukraine is collaborating with other countries to manufacture arms.
During the full-scale war, Ukraine has also developed unique maritime drones, which have been used successfully to strike Russian ships and other targets at sea.
Kyrylo Budanov, Head of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, stated that domestically produced drones are capable of striking Russian military targets at distances up to 1,800 km away.
