The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported the signing of a memorandum of understanding between nine NATO member countries. They will assist Ukrainian troops with training in Poland, LRT reports.

The OP-LEGIO training center began operations on October 1 in Poland, located about 160 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The initiative is led by Norway and includes Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Finland, and Sweden.

The countries will help Ukrainian troops train and provide weapons and equipment, enabling the brigade to prepare according to modern NATO standards.

As part of the initiative, Lithuania will provide a mobile training group, training ammunition, and grenades. The country will also supply Ukrainian troops with drone countermeasures and night vision devices worth around €12 million.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense emphasized that it continues to provide military support to Ukraine. Lithuania, together with Iceland, leads a demining coalition and regularly supplies Ukrainian engineer units with demining equipment.

Additionally, within five other coalitions, Lithuania provides various military aid, from drones to electronic warfare equipment. The country has allocated €20 million for the production of long-range drones and is actively working on joint production with Ukrainian companies on Lithuanian territory.

Training Ukrainian troops

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that European countries plan to send military instructors to Ukraine.

Last April, the Liut police brigade released a video of training with NATO instructors, where Ukrainian troops mastered various types of weapons.

The EU is preparing to approve training programs for Ukrainian troops on Ukrainian territory.
