Ukraine expects the European Union to strengthen its sanctions pressure on Russia.

This was stated by Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha following his meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, according to his post on the social platform X.

"Good meeting with Kaja Kallas. We discussed the next steps for the EU to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. We expect them to be strong and hurt Putin’s war budget," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote.

He also noted that he and Kallas discussed Ukraine’s path toward EU membership.

"I emphasized that Ukraine met all of the requirements to open the first negotiation cluster, and that one country obstructing the process is unacceptable," he added.

Sybiha thanked the European Union for its continued support of Ukraine, especially in the field of defense, and expressed gratitude to Kallas for her leadership on the matter.

On the sidelines of the summit, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski called on Europe to outpace Russia in defense capabilities, while Kaja Kallas reiterated that Ukraine is a top priority for the EU.
