The Netherlands has announced that it will allocate €250 million to purchase American weapons for Ukraine to strengthen its defense against Russian airstrikes, Sky News reports.
These funds will be provided as part of NATO's initiative to purchase American weapons for Ukraine.
Before meeting with his EU colleagues in Brussels, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans emphasized that these funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine's defense against Russian airstrikes.
"On a daily basis, we see heavy air attacks in Ukraine. The only way to help them in short notice is by delivering out of American stock," Brekelmans says.
The funding will be provided under the Priority Urgent Requirements List (PURL), which allows European and Canadian NATO allies to purchase weapons and military equipment from the US for Ukraine.
The additional supply of American weapons is expected to help Ukraine strengthen its defense against air attacks and provide more effective protection for its cities and civilian population.
Dutch aid to Ukraine
In January this year, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced that the Netherlands would provide Ukraine with assistance that would significantly strengthen its air defense.
Ukraine and the Netherlands signed a memorandum on joint drone production, marking a new stage in the development of defense cooperation between the countries.
In addition, last month, the countries of Northern and Baltic Europe announced a joint aid package worth $500 million (£378 million), which is also aimed at strengthening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian army.
According to Umerov, the Netherlands is among the leaders in supporting Ukraine, and this support remains unchanged.
