Netherlands plans additional transfer of six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine
The Netherlands plans to provide Ukraine with six additional F-16 fighter jets. In total, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 24 aircraft, according to the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kaj Ollongren.
"The Netherlands Ministry of Defence is readying 6 additional F-16 fighter aircraft for delivery to Ukraine," the statement reads.
Thus, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive a total of 24 aircraft from the Netherlands.
"Ukraine's aerial superiority is essential for countering Russian aggression," added the minister.
F-16 for Ukraine
In 2023, Ukraine's allies formed an aviation coalition to provide our country with modern F-16 fighter jets. The coalition is led by the Netherlands and Denmark.
It was recently officially announced that the first group of Ukrainian pilots had completed the basic training program in the United Kingdom and began training on F-16 fighters in Denmark.
The Pentagon stated that Ukraine could receive the first F-16 fighters as early as this year. Yurii Ihnat, the spokesperson for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that the partners were ready to transfer aircraft to Ukraine, but preparatory work needed to be completed.
