The North Atlantic Alliance will take part in discussions on those points of a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia that are related to NATO, said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a press conference.

The Secretary General assured that when it comes to NATO-related issues in the agreement to end the war in Ukraine, these will be handled separately, and NATO will be involved in this process.

He welcomed the US proposals for ending the war in the form of a 28-point peace plan, calling it an initial draft to start the negotiation process. Commenting on the specifics of Ukraine's NATO accession, Rutte noted that consensus among all Alliance members is required.

US peace plan and Ukraine's NATO accession

The US peace plan initially consisted of 28 points. According to media reports, it included provisions for Ukraine to abandon its intention to join NATO and to adopt a neutral status.

According to CNN, this point became one of the most problematic during negotiations between Ukrainian and American officials.

Sources told the outlet that Ukraine could be denied the opportunity to join the Alliance as a result of agreements between NATO member states and Russia.

Earlier, informed RBC-Ukraine sources reported that the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership should be discussed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump.
