NATO will be safe when Ukraine becomes its member - Bulgarian Foreign Minister
All NATO member countries will truly be secure when Ukraine becomes a full-fledged member of the alliance, according to Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov.
Kondov participated in a transatlantic dinner organized by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the meeting with his colleagues, Kondov emphasized NATO's key role in ensuring security in light of modern challenges, noting that the alliance’s member states will be genuinely safe once Ukraine joins NATO.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and security in the Black Sea region, stressing Bulgaria’s efforts in this direction.
Ukraine's NATO membership
The 75th anniversary NATO summit, held in early July 2024 in the United States, was a landmark event that showcased the unity of the alliance in the face of unprecedented global security challenges. For the first time in many years, NATO has faced a direct threat on its eastern borders, prompting decisive action.
Key decisions at the summit included strengthening military presence in the Black Sea region, appointing a special envoy to Kyiv, and creating a long-term platform to support Ukraine.
Additionally, NATO partners agreed at the summit to establish a structure for coordinating long-term assistance to Ukraine.
