Zelenskyy meets with Stoltenberg - NATO summit must be 'very good'
On Thursday, June 27, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. They discussed, in particular, the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, according to the President's Telegram channel and the NATO press service.
"I met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The key focus was on preparations for the NATO Washington Summit," Zelenskyy wrote.
According to the President, Ukraine expects a decision to strengthen the Alliance's role in coordinating security assistance and training for the Ukrainian military, as well as long-term financial commitments to provide stable support for Ukraine.
"I am grateful to Jens Stoltenberg for his efforts to consolidate the support of Ukraine by the Allies, in particular, to strengthen the capabilities to protect Ukrainian skies," the President said.
In turn, Stoltenberg said that the NATO summit in Washington would be "very good" for both the Alliance and Ukraine.
“I think we are really on track to a very good NATO Summit for Ukraine and for NATO,” he noted.
Stoltenberg expects the summit participants to agree on NATO's leading role in coordinating and providing security assistance to Ukraine, as well as training the Ukrainian military.
He also expects allies to support his proposal to introduce a long-term financial commitment to "give Ukraine more predictability in the support they receive".
