As part of the Spiderweb operation, Ukraine struck aircraft used by Russia for unprecedented attacks on civilians, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says.

When asked whether Ukraine had used intelligence from NATO member states for the Spiderweb operation, Rutte said that the Alliance had a tradition of not commenting on Ukrainian and Russian operations.

"When it comes to a specific operation, last Sunday, as I mentioned to one of your colleagues, clearly, what they targeted is Russia's capability to head out to target with missiles and other means, innocent Ukrainian civilians in cities, in communities all over Ukraine, and I clearly take note of that," he added.

The operation was carried out on June 1. On that day, drones of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) struck four Russian airbases: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo. According to the SBU, 41 Russian Federation strategic aircraft were destroyed or damaged as a result of the attack.

US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg said that the operation allegedly increased the risk of further escalation of the armed conflict.

Meanwhile, satellite images of two damaged airfields have appeared.
