NATO Secretary General names main instigator of Russia's war against Ukraine
China must stop supporting Russia's war against Ukraine. Beijing's assistance has become a key factor in prolonging the conflict, according to Reuters.
China has become a decisive enabler of Russia's war against Ukraine. China is the one that enables production of many of the weapons that Russia uses," Stoltenberg told reporters in Oslo.
Stoltenberg warned that Beijing's continued fueling of the war against Ukraine could negatively impact its interests and reputation.
"I call on China to stop supporting Russia's illegal war," he said.
Hostile China
Beijing has provided diplomatic and economic support to Russia since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Trade between the two countries has surged, and Moscow has circumvented Western sanctions with Beijing's help.
According to a survey by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center, only 22% of Ukrainians trust China as a potential mediator in possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Nearly two-thirds (62%) are unwilling to entrust such mediation to Beijing.
In July, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he does not want China, which has an unlimited partnership with Russia, to act as a mediator, but expressed hope that Beijing would exert greater pressure on Moscow to end the war.
