NATO Secretary General backs call for 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte joined the call by the Coalition of the Willing for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, according to his post on X.
"Joined more than 20 leaders for the Coalition of the Willing call this morning to advance efforts to ensure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine," Rutte wrote.
NATO Secretary General emphasized that this path to peace should begin with a 30-day unconditional ceasefire and "must be underpinned by continued and concrete support."
"It's clear from our meeting today that we are committed and continue to stand with Ukraine," Rutte concluded.
What precedes this
Today in Kyiv, a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place, with participants including: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, Head of the Polish Government Donald Tusk, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. In addition, Macron announced yesterday that a number of other coalition representatives would join online.
Before and after today's negotiations, the five leaders held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. Shortly thereafter, the reports indicated that a deadline was set for Russia to agree to a complete and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine.
During the press conference, Zelenskyy stated that the truce between Ukraine and Russia should begin as early as Monday, May 12. However, if the Kremlin does not agree to it, new sanctions await Russia.
Also, about an hour ago, Axios reported that if a ceasefire agreement is reached, Kyiv is ready for direct negotiations with Moscow. In particular, Zelenskyy said this to Trump during the aforementioned conversation.
