President of Finland Alexander Stubb did not rule out the possibility of becoming the European Union's representative in peace negotiations with Russia, reports Yle.

What Stubb said

In an interview with Yle, Stubb stated that peace negotiations can only begin once Russia commits to a ceasefire. In particular, he was asked whether he would be ready to serve as Europe's representative in the negotiations.

"If you ask, then to that question, one probably cannot answer negatively," he replied.

Secret role from the EU

According to Helsingin Sanomat, citing diplomatic sources, Stubb is being prepared for an important task.

Europe is generally preparing to begin negotiations with Russia — the process is in its early stages, but the Finnish president may occupy a central role in it.

At a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden, Secretary of State Rubio stated that negotiations have not yet produced results, but Washington is ready for further meetings if they are productive, and he dismissed rumours of US pressure on Kyiv.

On May 20, Zelenskyy expressed hope for a return to trilateral negotiations with Europe's participation and proposed reviving the E3 format for peace talks.
