NATO says Russia lost over 530,000 troops in Ukraine last year - Politico

NATO believes that losses among the Russian occupiers in Ukraine have increased significantly. Last year alone, Russia lost more than 530,000 of its troops in killed and wounded, Politico reports, citing an unnamed NATO official.
According to an unnamed North Atlantic Treaty Organization official, in total, over the three years of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian losses have reached 837,000 killed and wounded.
Russia's strikes and Ukraine's successes
The NATO representative also said that in January Russia fired 10,900 rounds of ammunition at Ukraine, the vast majority of which were Shahed-type attack drones.
However, in his opinion, Ukraine managed to achieve some success in retaliatory attacks against the Russian occupiers. For example, strikes on Russian oil refineries led to a decrease in supplies to Russian refineries by about 2.5% compared to last year.
North Korean troops in Ukraine
At the same time, the NATO representative spoke about the presence of North Korean troops in the Kursk region. According to him, there are currently 11,000 DPRK troops in the region. However, only a relatively small proportion of North Koreans are involved in combat. The rest are behind the front line.
According to the official, it is much more difficult for North Korean troops to adapt to drone attacks than for their Russian counterparts. He added that the North Koreans rely more on waves of human attacks.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian army lost 1,300 soldiers in the war against Ukraine on February 18-19. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed 72 artillery systems, 175 drones, and 146 enemy vehicles.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new number of killed and wounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Russia's invasion. According to the President, 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, and there are tens of thousands missing or in captivity. In addition, 350,000 soldiers have been wounded, and 19,500 children have been deported by Russia.
