Russia has lost more than 4,000 tanks during the full-scale war against Ukraine. This is nearly a US tank corps, states General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Commander of NATO Allied Forces in Europe.

"The Russians have lost more than 4,000 tanks, which is the inventory almost of the United States tank corps. The scale of this conflict is just awe-inspiring," said Cavoli during a hearing in the US Senate Committee.

During the hearing, the general was also asked about the consequences if Washington refuses to provide Kyiv with more military and intelligence assistance, as was done by the administration of US President Donald Trump after a disagreement with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House. Cavoli responded as follows:

"It would obviously have a rapid and deleterious effect on their ability to fight," said the NATO general.

He also noted that Kyiv's forces rely on US aid in intercepting missiles, as well as intelligence data that helps target Russian command posts and logistical areas.

What else did the NATO general say

According to Cavoli, Ukraine and its forces are currently in very strong defensive positions and are even improving those positions. He also dismissed the possibility of Ukraine's defeat in the war with Russia.

"There's nothing inevitable in war, and the Ukrainians are in very strong defensive positions right now and are improving weakly their ability to generate force and to reinforce those positions. It is hard sitting here right now to envision a major Ukrainian offensive that clears everybody, you know, out of every square inch of Ukraine, but likewise it's very hard to envision Ukraine collapsing and losing that conflict. I do not think there's an inevitability to a Ukrainian loss," the NATO general responded to a question.

He also mentioned that Ukraine has managed to resolve the issue of a shortage of soldiers to defend against the Russian invasion. This, in particular, was facilitated by lowering the mobilization age.
