NATO countries identify air defense systems for quick transfer to Ukraine – Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
During a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, specific air defense systems that can be delivered to Ukraine in the near term were identified. Work on their supply is underway, stated Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
He explained that the meeting of the NATO foreign ministers at the Alliance's headquarters focused on several key topics. First of all, military support was discussed, especially strengthening Ukraine's air shield.
Tykhyi reiterated that Ukraine urgently needs the delivery of 20 air defense systems, including HAWK, NASAMS, and IRIS-T, to protect critical energy infrastructure. This reinforcement is ideally required by the end of the year.
"Following the ministers' discussions at NATO headquarters, we managed to identify several such systems, missiles, and other equipment that could be handed over to Ukraine within a short time. Active work with partners is now underway to implement these steps," the spokesperson said.
Air defense for Ukraine
Ukraine’s urgent request for 20 HAWK, NASAMS, and IRIS-T air defense systems was made by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
The Minister stated that such deliveries would help Ukraine "avoid a blackout."
Notably, in November, Russia carried out several massive strikes on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure. Following these attacks, scheduled power outages were introduced for Ukrainian citizens.
