'My son is burning': Ukraine's police release first footage from Zaporizhzhia drone attack

On the night of May 1-2, the Russian army attacked Zaporizhzhia with strike drones, resulting in dozens of injuries. Law enforcement officers were among the first to arrive at the scene of the attack. Their body cameras captured chilling footage, according to Oleksii Biloshytskyi, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine.
"A massive drone attack turned the evening streets into disaster zones. Together with relevant services, we immediately arrived at the impact sites. We provided first aid to the injured, helped rescue people from burning apartments, and assisted with evacuations," said Biloshytskyi.
In the body camera footage, which he shared on his Telegram channel, the first terrifying moments following the Russian drone attack are visible. One of the residents can be heard shouting to rescuers that her son is burning.
The police body cameras also captured the rescue operation at the damaged building.
Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia on the night of May 2
Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Zaporizhzhia on the night of May 2. At least 10 strikes were recorded in the city. Drones damaged high-rise buildings, an educational institution, and an infrastructure facility. More than 30 people were injured as a result of the attacks.
According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, as of May 3, six more injured residents of Zaporizhzhia were still in hospitals. Most of the victims suffered from mine blast injuries, fractures, and burns.
Also, on the night of May 2, a locomotive repair plant in Zaporizhzhia came under Russian strikes. The fire sparked by the blasts was extinguished by rescuers by morning. The on-duty personnel at the facility were in a shelter, so no injuries or fatalities occurred.
