Musk secretly visited White House: Reason revealed
Billionaire Elon Musk secretly visited the White House in September of last year to discuss with American officials the prospects and risks of developing artificial intelligence, informs NBC News.
In the White House visit log, it is noted that the meeting took place in the west wing of the complex, and Rohan Patel, Senior Policy Advisor at Tesla, was also present with him.
Earlier on the same day, Musk and other tech industry executives met with lawmakers and journalists on Capitol Hill at an artificial intelligence summit. According to protocols, his meeting at the White House occurred at 4:00 p.m. Musk has complained for many years that Biden officials have ignored him and his companies.
The White House stated that the meeting was about artificial intelligence. Washington also confirmed that this was Musk's only visit during President Joe Biden's term, and it is noted that the president did not meet with the billionaire.
White House representative Robyn Patterson stated that this meeting "was one of many White House staff held with leaders in tech, academia, government and civil society."
"The Biden-Harris administration has been clear with tech leaders about the need for companies to ensure their products are safe before they’re released to the public," Patterson said.
Development risks of artificial intelligence
It's worth noting that legislators worldwide have started contemplating how to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) and prevent potential threats after generative AI, which uses data to create new content, such as ChatGPT, made headlines.
The International Monetary Fund previously stated that nearly 40% of jobs worldwide could be replaced by AI. The expected consequences will be more pronounced in economically developed countries than in partially developing markets.
The CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, also urged the United States Congress to regulate artificial intelligence. It is known that US Senators are holding secret briefings on this issue.
In early November of last year, the US, EU, UK, and China signed a joint declaration stating that artificial intelligence potentially poses a catastrophic risk to humanity.
