Moscow under attack. Largest drone strike on Russia (photos, videos)

Reports indicate the largest drone attack on Russia since the start of the war. The main targets were Moscow and the Moscow region, while in the Ryazan region, the Dyagilevo military airfield was under attack.
Here are all the known details about the large-scale attack on Russia.
Updated. The number of fatalities in the Moscow region of Russia has increased to two.
The attack began around 4 a.m. local time. Moscow and the surrounding areas were the primary targets. However, reports of air defense activity also came from the Kursk, Lipetsk, Bryansk, Belgorod, and Ryazan regions.
The Russian Telegram channel ASTRA, citing eyewitnesses, reports that the Dyagilevo military airfield in the Ryazan region may have been a key target. In total, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 337 drones overnight.
Moscow and Moscow region
Due to the massive attack, Russian authorities imposed the "Kover" (Carpet) regime (temporary flight restrictions) at all Moscow airports, including Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and Domodedovo.
One drone reportedly crashed near Domodedovo Airport, landing on the premises of the Miratorg distribution center. One security guard was killed, and three were injured. A fire broke out in the parking lot.
Additionally, some trains were canceled due to damage to railway tracks near Domodedovo.
Debris from the downed drones also struck apartment buildings, private houses, and vehicles. In the city of Vidnoye, fragments fell on a residential complex, while similar damage was reported in the villages of Vysoky Bereg and Aleksandrovka (Moscow region). In Moscow, debris fell on Domodedovskaya Street, and another drone crashed into an apartment building in the city of Ramenskoye, hitting a cottage as well.
Mash reports that drone fragments also fell in a forest park in the Kapotnya district of Moscow, where a Gazprom Neft refinery is located.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin spent most of the night informing residents about the so-called "downing" of drones that continued to approach the city. According to him, 74 UAVs were allegedly shot down near Moscow.
"The largest enemy drone attack on Moscow has been repelled. A total of 74 drones were shot down near Moscow, with hundreds more intercepted at various locations," Sobyanin claimed.
He did not report any casualties in Moscow but confirmed debris had fallen in Ramenskoye, Domodedovo, and Domodedovskaya Street.
Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov initially reported one fatality and three injuries, but later the number of injured rose to 20. He said at least seven apartments in the region were damaged.
Other regions of Russia
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that this was the largest drone attack of 2025. According to official figures:
- 91 drones were destroyed over the Moscow region,
- 38 over the Bryansk region,
- 25 over the Belgorod region,
- 22 over the Ryazan region,
- 10 over the Kaluga region,
- 8 each over the Lipetsk and Oryol regions,
- 6 over the Voronezh region,
- 3 over the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The highest number of drones was reportedly shot down over the Kursk region - 126.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that the attack targeted Kursk, where Russian forces have recently intensified their offensive operations.
He also confirmed strikes on Moscow and the Dyagilevo military airfield in the Ryazan region.
In the Lipetsk region, one person was injured after stopping to watch a drone in the sky, according to regional governor Igor Artamonov.
Meanwhile, in the Belgorod region, 36 settlements in the Krasnoyaruzhsky and Rakityansky districts lost power following the attack. A residential house caught fire in the village of Valuyki.
In the Kaluga region, a building caught fire after a drone crash, and windows were shattered in a residential house.
Videos shared online suggest this attack caused significant damage to civilian structures, including residential buildings - something that Russian forces do nightly in Ukraine by launching drones and missiles at peaceful cities.
Ironically, Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under the "terrorist act" charge, despite Russia itself launching drone and missile strikes against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, every night.
The previous largest drone attack on Russian regions occurred on January 14, when the Russian Defense Ministry reported 180 downed drones. The Moscow region was also targeted in that attack.
Last year alone, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces carried out around 130 operations, striking 377 targets in Russia.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukraine's deep-strike capability has reached 1,700 kilometers into Russian territory, with new long-range systems being developed.
"We are hitting the enemy at a distance, increasing strikes on its territory. Military units, arsenals, storage facilities, defense industry enterprises, oil refineries, and other energy and logistics infrastructure used by Russia in its war against us are our targets," Syrskyi said.
