More than 1,200 people will participate in the humanitarian exchange between Ukraine and Russia, agreed upon during the third round of negotiations in Istanbul, states Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, during a press conference following the third round of talks with Russia in Istanbul.

According to Umerov, the Russian side agreed to the return of people who have been held captive for over three years, including those who are seriously wounded and young.

"More than 1,200 people will take part in the exchange," the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted.

Third round of talks in Istanbul

The third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia took place today, July 23, in Istanbul. The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation, which was led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the negotiations between the delegations lasted no more than about one hour.

Russia and Ukraine agreed on a further exchange of military and civilian prisoners.

The discussions included, in particular, the exchange of young, wounded, and seriously ill prisoners of war. The sides also discussed the possibility of a medical evacuation exchange for those in critical condition.
