The European Union will allocate €20 million to strengthen Moldova’s air defense. The decision comes amid another violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones, states the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
She emphasized that violations of Moldova’s airspace by Russian drones are unacceptable and endanger civilian air traffic.
“The EU is investing 20 million EUR this year in Moldova’s air-defences to help strengthen the country’s security. Moldova’s skies cannot become a casualty of Russia’s war,” Kallas wrote.
Russian drones enter Moldova
On the night of November 29, Russia once again carried out a combined strike against Ukraine, using drones and various types of missiles.
Drones were detected over Ukraine throughout the night. Around 2:00 a.m., two Russian drones entered Moldovan territory. As a result, air traffic in the country was temporarily suspended.
Furthermore, later in the day after the attack, Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned the large-scale shelling of Ukraine and the violation of Moldova’s airspace. She emphasized that Russia’s actions are not the language of a country that seeks peace.
