Moldova joins more than 80% of EU sanctions against Russia
Moldova joined the European Union sanctions against Russia by more than 80%. The country will continue to support restrictions against the Kremlin, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Mihai Popshoi, reports TVR Moldova.
"There was a much smaller share. But recently it has increased. And we will continue the appeal to join our European partners," said Popshoi.
Answering the question whether Moldova can restore relations with Russia under the current Russian government, the minister said that it is impossible in the near future.
Russia grossly violates international law
"Given today's experience and the horrors that are happening in Ukraine, because of the barbaric, extremely cynical war, it is difficult to talk about any significant improvement in relations in the near future," the minister said.
According to him, Russia grossly violates international law and commits atrocities the likes of which have not been seen on the European continent since the Second World War.
"It is with great regret that we have to state that, no matter how diplomatic we are, no matter how we wish good to our citizens here and there, good trade relations, this, unfortunately, will have to wait. It is impossible to close the door to the horrors that are happening in Ukraine's eyes. Russia and Russian society will need an extremely long time to digest what happened," the minister said.
EU is preparing new package of anti-Russian sanctions
The EU has started discussing a new package of sanctions, which it intends to approve by February 24, 2024.
At the beginning of February, the media reported that more than 200 companies and individuals would be included in the new package.
According to Reuters, the package of sanctions will not contain new restrictions on the import of Russian goods.
