Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed nearly all enemy kamikaze drones of the Shahed type launched by the Russian army during the night of May 6, according to the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk.

He noted that during this night air attack, the occupiers used 13 attack drones in total.

"On the night of May 6, 2024, the Russian army attacked from the northern direction with 13 UAVs of the Shahed-131/136 type (launch area - Kursk region - RF)," the statement said.

The general said that 12 enemy barrage munitions were shot down by mobile groups. The combat work was carried out in the Sumy region.

"As a result of the combat work of mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 12 enemy attack UAVs were destroyed in the Sumy region," the general reported.

Night attack by Shahed drones

During the night of May 6, Russian forces once again conducted an aerial attack on Ukrainian territory using kamikaze drones.

Explosions were heard in Sumy after midnight. Following this, some areas of the city experienced partial power outages and water supply disruptions. There were also reports of subsequent explosions in the city's vicinity.

Later, the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy conducted airstrikes on energy facilities in the region overnight. The statement also mentioned that restoration work is underway on-site.

Additionally, the Sumy Regional Military Administration stated that due to the night attack by Shahed drones, critical infrastructure objects in the city are being switched to backup power. Resilience points are being set up in the city, and work to restore power supply has already begun.
