Missiles for Patriot and more: US announces new military aid package to Ukraine
The United States of America will provide Ukraine with weapons as part of a new $400 million military aid package, according to the White House and Andrii Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The text specifies that Biden has instructed Secretary of State Antony Blinken to allocate $400 million for Ukraine's needs.
However, the White House website does not specify what weaponry will be provided to Ukraine.
It should be noted that this is the second military aid package to Ukraine from the United States after Congress allocated funds for this at the end of April.
What is included in the aid package
According to Yermak, Ukraine will receive rockets for Patriot and NASAMS, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, ammunition for HIMARS and artillery, equipment, and more from the United States.
First package from the US after a pause
It's worth noting that recently the US Congress passed a law allocating over $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. Specifically, the funds are intended to supply the Ukrainian military with weapons.
Prior to this, US assistance to Ukraine had been suspended for several months due to funding running out.
Immediately following the decision of Congress, US President Joe Biden announced the first military aid package to Ukraine after a considerable hiatus. Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy clarified that the package included long-range ATACMS missiles, which Kyiv had long been asking Washington for.
The total value of the weaponry included in the package amounted to billions of dollars.
