A search-and-rescue operation is ongoing in Kharkiv at the site of Russia's missile strike on a residential building on January 2. Five more people may still be trapped under the rubble, according to Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov.

"Debris removal is continuing in Kharkiv at the site of yesterday's enemy strike. As a result of the attack, 27 people were injured, seven of whom remain hospitalized. A woman who was admitted in critical condition has undergone surgery and is currently in intensive care," Syniehubov said.

Two people were also killed in the Russian strike: a 3-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman.

According to available information, five more people may still be trapped under the rubble. They were likely inside an office building at the time of the explosion, and contact with them has not yet been established.

According to the head of the regional administration, rescue operations continued throughout the night.

Missile strike on Kharkiv

As a reminder, on January 2, Russian forces struck central Kharkiv with two missiles. The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office later confirmed that the attack involved Iskander ballistic missiles.

Initial reports said the missiles hit a multi-story residential building, completely destroying it.

Later, updated information indicated that a five-story building and part of the entrance of a four-story apartment building were damaged.

As a result of the enemy attack, two people were killed, including a child, and another 27 were injured.
