Western regions of Ukraine came under attack by Russian cruise missiles. As a result, military aviation operations were launched in Polish airspace, according to the Ukrainian Air Forces and the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

On the morning of December 6, western regions of Ukraine were targeted by Russian-launched cruise missiles.

The Ukrainian Air Forces reported missiles heading toward Lviv, Ternopil, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

Due to the activity of Russian long-range aviation, military aviation operations were initiated in Polish airspace.

In accordance with established procedures, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces activated the necessary forces and assets at its disposal. Fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were put on alert.

"These actions are preventive in nature and aimed at ensuring the safety of the airspace and its protection, especially in areas adjacent to regions that are under threat," the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said.

Instances of Polish Air Forces readiness

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that Poland had put two Patriot systems on alert in response to Russian MiG-31 activity.

On November 28, four fighters carrying Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles flew westward over the Baltic Sea without leaving Russian airspace. In response, Poland activated two Patriot systems at Rzeszów Airport. A NATO source said the Russian fighters soon turned back and returned to their base.

It was also reported earlier that Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 aircraft conducting reconnaissance in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

The Russian Il-20 was on a reconnaissance mission in international airspace without a filed flight plan and with its transponder turned off. At the same time, the aircraft did not violate Polish airspace.
