Ministry of Agrarian Policy explains grain spill compensation in Poland
As a result of protests by Polish farmers on the border, between 160 and 180 tons of Ukrainian grain destined for Morocco were spilled from freight wagons on the tracks. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine stated that all parties involved would compensate for the losses, according to Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
He noted that damaging private property is a violation of the law. The Ukrainian side has evidence that criminal proceedings have been initiated in Poland regarding cases where Polish protesters spilled Ukrainian grain.
According to Vysotskyi, those who caused the damage must compensate for it. This can be resolved through the courts or voluntarily, and he hopes for the shortest possible time for the case to be brought to court, fairness, and full compensation for the damage by those who caused it.
Polish political scientist Jakub Korejba also commented on this situation, stating that our so-called farmers do not want to change their lifestyle, as agriculture in Poland is not an economy but an expensive folklore. They are protecting their class's corporate interests from competition from Ukraine.
In Kotomierz near Bydgoszcz, the collection of Ukrainian grain spilled from freight wagons on the tracks has been completed. According to reports in the Polish media, 8 out of 40 wagons were opened, resulting in the loss of between 160 and 180 tons of Ukrainian grain. The Polish police reported that the wagons were opened by third parties as the holding straps were cut.
Later, it became known that part of the grain was successfully collected, but about 30 tons remained on the tracks. This grain will be disposed of.
