Minerals deal with US: Parliamentary committee gives 'green light' to ratification

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy has supported the ratification, both at the first reading and as a whole, of the minerals deal between Ukraine and the United States of America, this was announced by Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zhelezniak.
The next step will be the ratification of the document in the parliamentary session hall, which will pave the way for the practical implementation of the agreements. According to Zhelezniak, this is expected to take place on Thursday, May 8.
According to the MP, a proposal was made to the committee’s decision text:
-
Any additional agreements on the creation of a Reconstruction Fund must not contradict this Agreement;
-
This agreement is effective throughout the entire territory of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.
The MP clarified that during the committee meeting, 11 votes were "in favor," one abstained, and two did not participate in the vote.
Minerals deal
Recently, Ukraine and the US signed a minerals deal. The agreement provides for the creation of an investment fund, into which 50% of royalties, licensing fees, and other similar payments from natural resource extraction projects in Ukraine will be deposited.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Ukraine by First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko and on behalf of the US by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
However, the agreement will not take effect until it is ratified by the Verkhovna Rada. On May 2, the Cabinet of Ministers submitted the relevant bill to Parliament.
