MFA rejects Iran's accusations of Ukraine's involvement in escalation in Syria
Ukraine categorically rejects Iran's unfounded accusations of its alleged involvement in the escalation in Syria. The deterioration of the security situation in the country is due to the crimes of Bashar al-Assad's regime, and Moscow and Tehran bear responsibility for this, states the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, during a press conference.
What Iran accused Ukraine of
According to Mehr News, Mojtaba Damirchiloo, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and Director General of the Eurasia Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accused Ukraine of violating international obligations related to the prevention of terrorism and counterterrorism efforts.
He claimed that some Ukrainian officials are allegedly involved in the illegal trade of American weapons, which the US had provided for the needs of the Ukrainian military.
According to Damirchiloo, Ukraine is supporting "terrorist groups in Syria," and Tehran demands that such actions be "immediately stopped."
The assistant minister stated that experience shows cooperation with terrorism only leads to the spread of danger and violence in the world. He mentioned that terrorist elements in Syria have long been on the UN Security Council's list of terrorist organizations and emphasized that all governments must adhere to their international obligations to prevent and combat terrorism.
Reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
Tykhyi emphasized that Ukraine categorically and decisively rejects the unfounded accusations of its alleged involvement in the escalation in Syria.
He stated that Moscow and Tehran bear the main responsibility for the long-standing deterioration of the security situation in Syria. He also pointed out that the cause of the current situation in Syria is the crimes of Assad's regime, and added, "The focus should not be shifted."
The spokesperson for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also highlighted another interesting aspect of the current situation in Syria.
According to him, if one looks at the events from a purely military perspective, interesting conclusions can be drawn about Russia. In particular, that Russia is unable to fight on two fronts.
"This is becoming evident from the events in Syria. Why? Because Russia's significant losses in Ukraine have led to Moscow withdrawing the majority of its trained personnel and equipment from Syria, leaving its ally without the necessary support. As a result, we are witnessing the retreat not only of the Syrian army but also of the Russian military group. Furthermore, look at how Russia is concealing its losses in Syria," Tykhyi added.
He noted that this is a sign of the weakness of the Russian regime, which "we will see in many parts of the world."
Situation in Syria
Recently, large-scale clashes broke out in Syria between the rebels of the Islamist group Ha'yat Tahrir al-Sham, units of the Syrian National Army, and the forces of dictator Bashar al-Assad. According to one version, the rebels are supported by Türkiye, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, stated that the main goal of the rebels remains the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime and the "building of a new Syria."
According to Reuters, Syrian rebel forces are continuing their offensive and have advanced toward the major city of Homs, which opens the way to the capital, Damascus.
