German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wants to give advice to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington, reports n-tv.de.

The outlet recalls that Merz’s meeting with Trump at the White House was successful, while one of Trump’s meetings with Zelenskyy there ended in a historic scandal.

That is why Merz considers it his duty to offer Zelenskyy advice ahead of his upcoming visit to Washington on August 18. Moreover, Merz claims that Zelenskyy allegedly asked him for such advice.

Merz noted that Zelenskyy saw the German-American meeting at the leadership level was very different from his own. In addition, Merz said that together with European partners, they would give him some good advice before the trip to the US.

According to the media, EU leaders want to support Zelenskyy as much as possible on the way to a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump–Putin meeting

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska.

On his way from Alaska to Washington, Trump held phone conversations with President Zelenskyy and NATO leaders.

Trump wants to hold a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia next Friday, August 22. However, Putin has not publicly committed to such a meeting.

Zelenskyy himself announced that he will meet with Trump in Washington on Monday, August 18.
