Medieval spirit in Ukraine: Where to find gothic ruins and forgotten churches

Gothic in Ukraine is not just about Lviv or Kamianets. Across different regions, dozens of churches and cathedrals have survived — frozen in time. Most of them have long been inactive, some are partially in ruins, but that's precisely what gives them their unique power: an atmosphere of mystery, mysticism, and sacred silence.
Where can you visit ancient cathedrals and abandoned churches?
Church of Archangel Michael in Komarno, Lviv region
Built in 1656. Today it stands partially ruined, with shattered stained-glass windows, yet still preserves traces of Gothic elements. The atmosphere feels like something straight out of a vampire movie.

Dominican Church in Chortkiv, Ternopil region
A true Neo-Gothic gem with towers resembling the spires of a medieval castle. The church is partially active, but part of it remains neglected — and that's exactly what attracts admirers of "Gothic decadence."

Church in Berezhany
A true Gothic treasure in the heart of Ternopil region. It has a gloomy appearance, especially in foggy weather. Neglected, yet incredibly atmospheric.
