A large fire has broken out at an oil refinery in Feodosia, located in temporarily occupied Crimea, with smoke rising from the site, the Telegram channels ASTRA and Krym.Realii report.

Oleg Kryuchkov, an Adviser to the so-called "Head" of the occupied by Russia Crimea, confirmed that the fire occurred at the refinery. According to him, the cause was a violation of welding procedures.

However, shortly before this, Russian authorities reported an aviation threat to the peninsula and a threat from unidentified drones. In addition, maritime transport and traffic over the Crimean Bridge were temporarily halted.

Feodosia oil refinery

The temporarily occupied city of Feodosia houses an oil refinery of strategic importance for supplying fuel to the Russian military and civilian infrastructure in Crimea.

Since the Russian occupation of Crimea, the Feodosia oil terminal has been operated by the Marine Oil Terminal JSC. Its transshipment capacity is about 12 million tons per year, and the terminal can store up to 250,000 tons of petroleum products at a time. After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Feodosia oil terminal has been repeatedly targeted by airstrikes.

Strike on Feodosia oil terminal

In early October last year, Ukrainian forces attacked the oil terminal in occupied Feodosia. At that time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the terminal was the largest in Crimea in terms of petroleum product transshipment for the Russian military.

The fire at the terminal lasted almost a week, and the occupying authorities in Crimea even announced an evacuation. For several days, storage tanks on the terminal’s premises exploded.

Recently, Russians have also complained about fuel shortages on the peninsula.
